A 55-year-old man was flown to a Little Rock hospital Friday afternoon after accidentally shooting himself in the leg in Pope County’s Gumlog community, according to the Pope County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a reported gunshot wound around 1:26 p.m. Oct. 30 in the area of West Gumlog Road.

Initial reports indicated the man had accidentally shot himself in the leg with a .22-caliber firearm. The bullet reportedly passed through his leg.

The man was pulled over in the parking lot at Gumlog Fellowship Church, where emergency responders arranged for an air ambulance. A landing zone was initially planned at the Pope County shop off Highway 124.

Following an investigation, deputies made an initial determination that the injury was the result of an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Sheriff’s Office said there was no threat to the public.

The man was transported by air ambulance to a Little Rock hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released, and no additional information about his injuries was immediately available.

Sheriff Blake Wilson expressed his appreciation to the agencies that assisted with the response.
