{"id":2541,"date":"2026-10-23T15:16:31","date_gmt":"2026-10-23T20:16:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rivervalleyrecord.com\/?p=2541"},"modified":"2026-10-26T15:32:28","modified_gmt":"2026-10-26T20:32:28","slug":"corps-closes-russellville-marina-safety-violations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rivervalleyrecord.com\/es\/corps-closes-russellville-marina-safety-violations\/","title":{"rendered":"Corps orders full closure of Russellville Marina over unresolved safety issues, lease default"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. \u2014<\/strong> The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has ordered the complete closure of Russellville Marina, effective Friday, October 23, after determining that required safety improvements and repairs were not being completed within the agreed timeframe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The closure affects the entire marina, including its docks, grounds, store, cabins, boat repair shop and all other commercial operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision comes more than three months after the Corps initially closed most of the marina&#8217;s docks in July because of structural damage and safety concerns. At that time, the marina&#8217;s other businesses were allowed to remain open while the operator worked to address the problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tomas Rofkahr with the Corps of Engineers said Friday afternoon that the agency made the decision to close the entire facility after attempting to work with the operator on repairs both before and after the partial closure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a news release from the Corps&#8217; Little Rock District, subsequent inspections found that mandatory public safety measures were not being enforced and critical repair deadlines had been missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Corps also cited a default under the marina&#8217;s commercial concession lease agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The operator traced the main issue to a February winter storm that caused extensive damage to the marina&#8217;s docks. The Corps previously said the storm damage, combined with deferred maintenance, created unsafe conditions that required repairs before the affected docks could reopen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July, marina owner Letitia Green said the storm had damaged the infrastructure beneath the marina&#8217;s main dock, which provides access to other docks. She said crews had been building replacement docks and that she intended to complete the necessary repairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Green also emphasized the marina&#8217;s role in providing recreational opportunities on Lake Dardanelle, including boat and kayak rentals, particularly for people who don&#8217;t own boats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We really do consider ourselves part of the community,&#8221; Green said during the July interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friday&#8217;s closure now leaves a roughly 20-mile stretch of the Dardanelle Pool of the Arkansas River Navigation System without marina services, according to the Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agency said the facility will remain closed while officials work to identify viable solutions for its future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Boat owners given time to remove property<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Current marina patrons will be allowed to access nonhazardous areas of the property from October 23 through October 30 to remove boats and other personal belongings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone needing access to docks that were previously closed must coordinate with the Russellville Site Office or the Corps&#8217; Real Estate Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After October 30, all property removal will be by appointment only, with access coordinated through one of those offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Corps also established a longer-term deadline for removing property from the premises. Any personal property remaining after <strong>July 7, 2027<\/strong>, will be subject to federal impoundment and removal procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boat owners can contact the Russellville Site Office at <strong>501-340-1762<\/strong> or the Little Rock District Real Estate Division at <strong>501-324-5716<\/strong>.
