Veterans Day is Wednesday, Nov. 11, and communities across the Arkansas River Valley are preparing to honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

From Russellville’s annual downtown parade to ceremonies, community celebrations and special tributes, the week surrounding Veterans Day will offer several opportunities for residents to show their appreciation.

Russellville Veterans Day Parade — Nov. 11

The annual Pope County–Russellville Veterans Day Parade will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, along West Main Street in downtown Russellville.

The parade has been described by organizers as one of Arkansas’ largest Veterans Day celebrations, typically featuring 50 to 100 entries, including military vehicles, marching bands, veterans organizations, motorcycles, businesses, churches and community groups.

This year’s Russellville parade will place special emphasis on Gold Star Families — those who have lost a loved one in military service.

Parade entry is free, and all groups are welcome. To enter, email Rick Smith at rick@humphreyfuneral.com with the name of your entry, a contact person, primary and secondary phone numbers, an email address, and the type of entry (float, walkers, vehicle, etc.).

Residents can participate by displaying green lights at their homes or businesses.
